Apps
Apps are on-ramps and supplements, not vehicles — the method does the heavy lifting. That said, each of these has a real use:
Fill-the-gap sentences from the Tatoeba corpus, ordered by frequency. The best of the gamified apps for Hungarian — it’s real sentences, and it starts where Duolingo ends.
Pure visual vocabulary in 5-minute sessions. Good for the first few hundred nouns; no grammar, no sentences — use as a snack, not a meal.
The community-made Hungarian courses (including MagyarOK vocabulary decks) are the value here — variable quality, occasionally excellent.
A weirdly addictive little word-guessing game with Hungarian support. Zero commitment, decent early-vocab reps.
Fine first two weeks; the Hungarian course is infamous for odd sentences. When the streak becomes the goal, exit to the roadmap. (Longer answer in the FAQ.)
Hungarian language patches for video games. If you game anyway, switching your comfort games to Hungarian is immersion you’d be doing for free.
