Sentence mining

Sentence mining = when you meet a sentence with exactly one unknown thing, you capture it as an Anki card. Your deck becomes a diary of your own immersion.

  • Front: the Hungarian sentence (audio if you can get it)
  • Back: the sentence, the target word + reading/meaning, source screenshot
  • ✅ One-target (1T) sentences — one unknown word or one unfamiliar suffix use
  • ✅ Words you’ve now met twice or more
  • ❌ Rare literary words at Stage 1–2 · ❌ entire unknown sentences · ❌ anything that bores you
  • Mine the inflected form in context, but make sure the card teaches you the dictionary form (szótári alak) too — you must be able to connect házamban to ház.
  • Definite vs. indefinite verb forms are prime mining targets: the sentence context is exactly what tables can’t teach.
  • Preverb behavior (meg-, el-, ki-…) is best acquired through mined examples, not rules.
