Why most learners fail

Most people who start Hungarian quit within months. The causes are predictable.

  1. The app treadmill. Years of Duolingo streaks, unable to follow a conversation. Apps are on-ramps, not vehicles.
  2. Grammar-first studying. Trying to memorize the case system before meeting it in real sentences. Grammar study should serve input, not replace it.
  3. Premature output. Forcing conversation from week one cements errors and burns motivation.
  4. Boring input. Studying textbook dialogues while your actual interests sit untouched in Hungarian.
  5. No system. Motivation is a consumable. Systems (daily immersion, Anki, a routine) are renewable.

All five have the same antidote: build your learning around compelling comprehensible input, supported by light study and good tools. That’s the whole site in one sentence — details in The acquisition mindset.
