When to start output

Output is evidence of acquisition, not a shortcut to it. The goal isn’t to delay speaking forever — it’s to stop forcing it before there’s language to draw on.

  • Hungarian phrases pop into your head unprompted
  • You can follow easy native content without translating
  • You catch yourself noticing errors in your own attempts

For most people this lands somewhere in Stage 2–3 of the roadmap.

  1. Writing first — chat messages, journaling, forum comments. Slow, low pressure, correctable.
  2. Reading aloud / shadowing — borrow native mouths before trusting your own.
  3. Conversation — tutors or exchange partners, once writing feels fluid.
