Grammar guide
This guide originates from the Magyar-Tanulás Repository and is being migrated here chapter by chapter, reorganized into four tracks.
How to use a grammar guide (the acquisition way)
Section titled “How to use a grammar guide (the acquisition way)”- First pass, early: read it like a tour, not a textbook. You’re building recognition, not recall.
- Reference mode, forever: when input confuses you, look it up, understand the example, return to input.
- Never grind the tables into Anki. Forms are acquired from thousands of sentences — the table is the map, input is the territory.
The tracks
Section titled “The tracks”- Foundations — sounds, vowel harmony, articles, pronouns, counting
- Nouns & cases — plural, accusative, possession, the locative system, the full case table
- Verbs — conjugation, the definite/indefinite distinction, moods, coverbs
- Syntax — negation and the topic–focus word order that makes Hungarian Hungarian
